| Curtis W. Ruby was a highly regarded, much honored and perfectly competent law enforcement officer for nearly 28 years. He has never been disciplined, reprimanded, warned, demoted, decreased in pay or suspended. On December 13, 2007 he was fired. Ruby is the only certified Hostage/Crisis Negotiator with the Sheriff's Office or the Fort Dodge Police Department. He is a Defensive Tactics Instructor, EMT and firefighter. He is the person in law enforcement with the greatest experience in Domestic Violence. He has served as a Board member for Domestic/Sexual Assault Outreach Center and Chairperson of its Public Awareness Comittee, and as a Board member for the Iowa Crime Victim Assistance Board. He served on the Coordinating Council for VAWA appointed by Lt. Governor Joy Corning and served on the Curriculum Board for the Prosecutors Training Counsel of Iowa. He has taken and taught hundred of hours of courses on domestic violence and sexual assault. Virtually every person who advocates for the rights of women and children crime victims in Iowa knows him, has worked with him and respects and values the enormous contributions he has made for more than two decades. |
